Access Control System

Access control systems are a vital part of ensuring the security of your business and homes. These systems, as a priority, allow you to determine who is allowed entry to certain sensitive areas of your premises, so that you can keep unauthorized individuals out. They do this using ID’s (cards, tags, keys), PIN’s or by using some biometric method. This last method, biometry, is by far the most secure but is also the slowest which means many end users still opt for cards and tags.

As a small business owner, one of your top priorities is keeping your employees and building secure from break-ins or unwanted visitors. An access control system allows you to do this while effectively and efficiently managing employee access. Providing physical keys to every employee can be impractical, plus it invites mistakes, like a worker who frequently loses their keys, or risk, like keys being given to someone who should not have them. An access control system is a safer option. It provides several options for credentials, such as key cards, PINs, key fobs, mobile apps and more, which can be programmed with additional security measures and easily canceled or modified in the event of, for example, a misplaced key card or the termination of an employee. Access control systems also allow employers restrict access to certain areas of their building, setting varying levels of security depending on individual employees' needs and clearances. These systems also track who has entered certain access points, you can see analytics on employees movements and receive suspicious activity alerts

To help you determine the best Access Control system for your needs, here are the types that are currently available:

  • Stand-alone systems:

  • Do not require any type of infrastructure or connectivity, the Access Control terminal itself has the memory and the capability to manage users. These entry-level systems are usually limited by the number of users which can be stored and generally don’t allow for scheduling. One or two entrances can be controlled. They are ideal for small shops, offices, warehouses, etc. with a maximum of 30 registered users.

A variation of stand-alone systems is telephone entry systems. These systems provide the option for a guest to call up to a resident so that they can remotely open the door for them. These types of systems are generally found in apartment buildings and they effectively act as an automated doorman who screens guests and determines who is allowed in or not.

  • Managed systems:

  • Are networked and connected to a central software application from which users are administered, hours and calendars are controlled together with entry permissions. This allows security personnel to not only restrict access but also monitor who entered a particular access point and when they did so. These systems usually provide authorized personnel with a keycard that not only allows them access to a particular location but also allows monitoring of when they entered or exited there.

Managed systems also allow for system-wide monitoring and complete audits to be produced showing who entered where and when. These functions, when combined with CCTV surveillance and intrusion can offer very high levels of security at relatively low cost; for organisations of up to 2,000 employees.

  • Corporate systems:

  • Offer a complete web-based, multi-platform, multi-site software management system which can parameterize many different types of entry requirements. These solutions allow for seamless integration with third party systems: CCTV surveillance, intrusion, vehicle access, intercoms, alerts, messaging, asset management, cyber-security (mange both physical and logical access), time and attendance, tele-assistance, etc.

determining your security requirements will aid your choice of access control system for your organization. It is better to install the system that meets your needs rather than having to pay for features that you will not use. If you’re unsure as to how to assess your security requirements, you can consult with experts who will inspect your premises and make recommendations.

What Are the Benefits of Electronic Access Control?

The benefits of access control can save you money or even your life. Here’s what you can expect.

    1. Implement the System with Ease

Installing electronic access control is a seamless process. Assigning access to certain areas of your building is easy and automatic with a system that leverages your existing employee demographic data. Of course, you can enter data manually as well to customize authorized access exactly the way you want.

  • 2. Deter Criminals at Various Access Points
  • Most criminals look for opportunities with little risk and high reward. With an effective access control system, you eliminate the possibility of an easy entry, helping to reduce the overall risk of theft and vandalism. Access control lets you secure various access points in your building, including: Primary entry and exit points Build perimeters
  • Access ramps
  • Tarmacs
  • Parking garages
  • Building departments
  • Elevators
  • Closets
  • Networks and workstations
  • You can create individual settings for each employee and control access to secure areas based on the day, time, and other changing factors. You can also completely revoke access in the case of lost or stolen credentials, if necessary.

  • 3. Reduce Employee Theft
  • Working in isolation without supervision is a major contributing factor to employee theft and fraud. Electronic access control lets you monitor who enters which areas and when. If you have a theft or data breach issue, you can easily change access levels while an investigation is underway. You can also set up alerts to find out if someone attempts to access an area when their permission has been revoked.
  • 4. Protect Secure Data
  • Physical theft is obviously an issue, but so is the potential for a data breach. That’s why you should implement electronic access control for servers and data rooms. You can even require an access credential to log into networks and workstations to help protect any secure employee and client data.

  • 5. Enjoy Cloud Access
  • Not all access control systems are based in the cloud, but the solutions available from ASI certainly are. A cloud-hosted server provides the additional benefit of remote access, allowing you to view and make changes to the system from anywhere with an internet connection. Change access levels, temporarily unlock doors for trusted vendors or suppliers, add or remove credentials, and print security reports, all without having to visit your office and log into the internal system.

  • Install Electronic Access Control in Your MD, VA, or DC Area Building
  • If these benefits appeal to you,Linx Networks Ltd is a reliable company to choose as your electronic access control installer and service provider. We serve businesses throughout Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Contact us today to discuss your access control needs and get the installation started!
